Who is the Pennsport String Band?
The Pennsport String Band was formed in 2007 and features members with decades of experience in the Philadelphia Mummers Parade and Mummers association. Since joining the Mummers Parade in 2008, Pennsport String Band has carved out a unique identity within one of Philadelphia's most beloved traditions. Based in the city's historic River Port District—an area that inspired the band's name—Pennsport has earned a reputation for blending innovation with old-school charm. We look forward to continuing our tradition of musicianship and celebrating this music that has been the soundtrack of Philadelphia for over a century.
Join the Band
The Pennsport String Band invites you to be part of the official Philadelphia Mummer tradition that dates back to 1901. Our membership is comprised of amateur musicians who are teachers, construction workers, doctors, dentists, engineers, architects, truck drivers, and bankers to name a few. The band is always looking for new members. Non musicians are also welcomed to have fun and help out. Rehearsals are open to anyone who loves music and fun, from beginners to seasoned players. Whether you play accordion, banjo, saxophone, strings, percussion, or more, there's a place for you here.
